Huge Harry Potter Setup at Gigantium Friday the 19 of May
Film concerts have become increasingly popular in later years. The people of North Denmark have recently been able to experience film titles such as Pirates of the Caribbean, Home Alone and Frozen, and Musikkens Hus is now bringing the concept even furthe
First came the books, then the films about the fantastic fantasy figure Harry Potter. The books as well as the films are historical best sellers, and Harry Potter now begins a new journey around the world in film concerts.
At a film concert, the original film is played with speech and Danish subtitles just like in a movie theater. So far, so good. There is however an important difference, namely that the amazing film music written specifically for the film is played LIVE by a large symphony orchestra seated under the big screen. This provides a very unique experience, says director at Musikkens Hus, Lasse Rich Henningsen:
- Film concerts have become extremely popular in later years. New technological breakthroughs ensure a razor-sharp digital image on the huge screens, and we add LIVE sound from a large symphony orchestra, he explains and continues: - In later years, we have been very successful with e.g. the Pirates of the Caribbean, Home Alone and Frozen at Musikkens Hus, and every time, we see the audience leaving the concert hall with a whole new experience of being entertained and with a big fascination of film music and the LIVE experience that a symphony orchestra provides.
Musikkens Hus is now staging the first of the eight Harry Potter films, "Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone", as a film concert at Gigantium in cooperation with the Aalborg Symphony Orchestra. It will be the first time that Harry Potter can be seen as a film concert in Scandinavia, and it will indeed be a genuine tour premiere:
- We will be hosting the premiere in Aalborg, and after that, the film concert will travel to other Scandinavian cities along with the Aalborg Symphony Orchestra, says Lasse Rich Henningsen.
There will be room for 3,500 film concert goers at Gigantium on the night of the premiere, and if all goes well, Aalborg will host the additional Harry Potter film concerts in coming years. That is why this is a very special initiative for Musikkens Hus:
- It’s the first time we’ve won such a large contract to send on a tour of Scandinavia. But the purpose is to familiarize as many people as possible outside of the traditional audiences with the concept of film concerts, thereby increasing their interest in symphony orchestra concerts specifically and in classical music in general. We have managed to do so with other film concerts and are expecting a lot from the Harry Potter film concerts as well. Film concerts are for children, the young, the middle aged and the old, and as an audience member, you will experience a completely different fascination of the music and of its creation, says Lasse Rich Henningsen.
American composer John Williams has written the music for the first three Harry Potter films. John Williams has also written the music for films such as Star Wars, Superman, E.T., Indiana Jones, Jurassic Park and Schindlers List. He has also composed the famous “Hedwig’s Theme" which is used in all eight of the Harry Potter films.
